Five selected youth leaders of the Uphamâs Corner Youth Council who are eager to make a change in our community will become âgrant makersâ, learning to create grant materials, work with grant seekers, award mini grants up to $2,500 and then evaluate the effectiveness of the funding.
Mission Statement: To facilitate change in our community through youth leadership, civic engagement, and youth philanthropy. Driven by the hope that sustains success, we are tomorrow's promise.
Goals:
- To bring the community together
- To provide funding for projects(Based on a specific theme)
- To close gaps between cultures
- To make positive changes
The theme for 2009-2010 was Youth Jobs and Advocating for additional state and local dollars to help more young people get into the workforce. The coming yearâs theme will be announced in the winter of 2011.
How does it all work?
Once the committee has announced the theme or themes for the year, Requests for Proposals are posted on this website, social media outlets and through eblasts. Those youth groups that express interest in competing for a grant are invited to a bidderâs conference and then submit a proposal. Grants are for projects that support youth interests and organizational missions. Those awarded grants receive certificates, award letters at our Annual Youth Summit.
